TGHC Moving Forward 2017-18 PACKSHOTThe Gateshead Housing Company’s free customer training programme, Moving Forward, is now available for 2017-18.

Our training opportunities give local residents the chance to learn new skills, meet new people and help to improve our services.

And the best part is that all our courses are free if you
live in Gateshead.

Need help to attend?

Help is available to support people with specific needs including:

  • Transport to courses
  • British Sign Language interpreters
  • Other language interpreters
  • Help with childcare costs in some cases
  • Information in alternative formats.

Digital training

Last year we started working in a number of sheltered schemes showing residents the basics of using a tablet, searching the internet and accessing the housing company’s services online.

This year we will deliver more training across the wider community, so if this is something you are interested in, please get in touch.

Healthy cooking on a budget

This basic practical session will give you the confidence to make quick, simple and healthy food that will help to improve your diet without going over your budget.

Mystery shopping

Here you will find out how to be an effective mystery shopper for the housing company, learning how to check our services and make sure we are delivering them in accordance with our company standards.

Safeguarding awareness

Attending this short course will provide you with a basic awareness of what Safeguarding Children or Adults means and what the potential signs of abuse or neglect are, what can be done to prevent abuse and neglect, and how to report a concern.

Saving energy and money

We will continue to deliver energy advice sessions to help ensure you aren’t paying more than you should be on your gas and electricity bills. We can also guide you through a price comparison and help you to switch tariff or supplier. Customers have saved on average £273 a year by attending this session.

Setting up a business

Here you will learn a range of useful skills to help you set up your own business. This two-hour session includes everything from the very basics of business planning to registering with HMRC and organising tax and national insurance contributions. They can also provide additional support by signposting you to other organisations where necessary.
