New pest control charges from 20 June 2016

by The Gateshead Housing Company & filed under Help in your home, News.

HouseOver the next four years our income will reduce by at least £24 million.

To prepare for this we have been working with Gateshead Council on a range of ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

From 20 June 2016 the subsidised pest control service is no longer provided, and tenants must report infestations and pay for the service by contacting Gateshead Council’s Customer Services.

The Gateshead Housing Company will only cover the costs for certain types of infestation:

  • Infestations of communal areas
  • Rats (inside a property)
  • Cockroaches
  • Wasps’ nests, if they are blocking the only access to a property
  • Blocked vents inside a property
  • Infestations of wood-boring insects (eg woodworm) inside a property.
