Title: Gateshead Groups Given Free Advice Worth Up To £10,000 Date: 28/04/08 Dozens of groups and organisations from across Gateshead took up the opportunity to find out more about how to apply for up to £10,000 of funding.
The Community Foundation held a drop-in session at Gateshead Civic Centre between noon and 4pm today (28 April), to answer questions about The Gateshead Housing Company’s Community Fund. The event was organised to give small or new groups free advice on filling in forms and supplying the type of information needed for grants, especially if the group have never applied for funding before. The drop-in session, which was held in the main foyer of Gateshead Civic Centre, gave local groups the opportunity to speak informally with staff from the Community Foundation and the housing company. The Community Fund offers cash and in-kind awards from £500 to £10,000 to groups that aim to improve the lives of people in the borough. The Community Fund’s awards are ongoing, so groups can apply at any time, and grants are assessed and awarded on a quarterly basis. The company's partners Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) North East, Gateshead Council’s Local Environmental Services and Morrison Facilities Services Limited are also supporting the fund. The Community Foundation, which currently manages over £40m of charitable and community funds, is administrating the fund on behalf of the housing company. Groups in Gateshead who didn’t get a chance to attend the drop-in session can find out more about the scheme by logging on to www.communityfoundation.org.uk to download information and application forms. Groups can also e-mail general@communityfoundation.org.uk or telephone 0191 222 0945. |
