Living in Birtley

Birtley is the most southerly part of the borough and is slightly closer to the town of Chester-le-Street around three miles away, than it is to Gateshead town centre.

The area has public transport links to Gateshead, Chester-le-Street and Durham by bus, however it is not connected to the Metro system.

Chester-le-Street and Durham both have rail stations.

Birtley has a local shopping area located in its centre, with a housing office being part of  Gateshead Council @ Birtley.

This office delivers a range of services from Gateshead Council and The Gateshead Housing Company.

The area has a variety of properties, such as family homes, sheltered accommodation, bungalows and flats, but does not have any multi-storey accommodation.
