The Gateshead Housing Company is looking to appoint independent directors to its Board to help with its future plans.

The company, which manages over 21,000 homes, is looking for local business people to help make key decisions about housing services across the borough.

The new recruits will work alongside existing independent, Gateshead Council and tenant directors, and will be involved with how homes are repaired and improved in the future, as well as other key housing services.

Ideal applicants should have some knowledge of social housing issues and experience of finance, business, strategic decision-making, staff management or corporate governance.

Since the company was set up, the company's Board has approved contractors for its HomeRepairs service and the teams that have carried out Decent Homes improvements to thousands of homes.

The company offers ongoing training and development support to members of its Board, which meets bi-monthly.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 20 August with interviews taking place during September.

Bill Fullen, Chief Executive of the housing company said: "We have already improved thousands of homes across Gateshead and carry out a huge range of day-to-day services on estates across the borough.

"This role is a fantastic opportunity for a local business person to be involved with helping us to shape the long-term future of housing in the area."
