Housing company cleans up Gateshead estate
Published Thursday 29th July 10
Residents of a housing estate have joined forces with The Gateshead Housing Company to clean up their neighbourhood.
The William Pitt estate 'community clean up' saw nearly six tonnes of rubbish disposed of as part of the housing company's work to improve homes and estates.
Skips across the area gave over 150 residents the opportunity to get rid of household and garden waste.
Kevin Roberts, Felling Housing Manager, said: "Our clean ups are always a great success as they offer tenants a hassle-free way to get rid of unwanted items."
Residents who took part also could also seek advice on recycling, policing, community projects and Gateshead Council and housing services.
The clean up day was organised by The Gateshead Housing Company, Gateshead Council and Northumbria Police.
It was part of a week-long programme of community events called 'Opportunity knocks again!' that gave over 21,000 households the chance to get involved and shape future services.
The company's clean ups are also part of The Big Tidy Up campaign.
