Statement regarding tower block fire in London

by The Gateshead Housing Company & filed under News.

We would like to express our sympathy for those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire in London.

We want to reassure all our residents that we work very closely with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to keep our customers safe. All of our multi-storey blocks receive fire risk assessments, and each block has fire safety advice for residents, displayed in the communal areas. In addition, all of our blocks have a resident caretaker who makes regular safety checks.

Following the tragic events in London we are working with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to review our fire safety provisions, and we will keep the residents of the multi-storey blocks informed.

We would advise people living in multi-storey blocks to always call 999 immediately after discovering a fire.

We understand that many of our customers will have concerns and if this is the case we would ask people to email the Multi-storey Team at operationalsupport@gatesheadhousing.co.uk or call 0191 433 5370.

We are receiving a wide range of queries from a number of agencies and individuals. To ensure all residents are updated we have issued a newsletter, developed in conjunction with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.
