Decent Homes Programme - What it means to youAfter The Gateshead Housing Company achieved its 'two-star' status from the Audit Commission, the programme of major improvements was updated to give customers more information. Originally the company asked tenants across the borough how it should put together the programme to tackle work needed to meet the Government's Decent Homes Standard by 2010. The company realised then that everyone would ideally like the work to start on their own home first. But, because of the size of the programme, and the available funding, this simply isn't possible - and work needed to be prioritised. Tenants took part in focus groups and completed hundreds of questionnaires to help the company compile this programme, which is based on properties needing the most work done first, and all work being done at homes in one go. All customers need to be aware that before work can start on any estate, we will need to be sure that value for money can be delivered. We will take into account demand and tenancy turnover on the estate, together with properties requiring structural works.
