Apprentices are “the business”

by The Gateshead Housing Company & filed under About us - our employees, News.

Last September saw 11 new apprentices start their career journey with The Gateshead Housing Company.

The housing company apprentices, aged 16-24, were appointed to a variety of roles to give them on-the-job experience in plumbing, electrical engineering, joinery, plastering and business administration.

Here we catch up with our business apprentices who are now six months into their placement.

Apprentices Brandon Thompson and Lee Frazier have been learning the basics of business administration on the job while attending college one day per week to complete Business Administration NVQ level 2.

They work in various teams across the company completing day-to-day administration tasks such as handling mail, scanning documents, taking messages and providing support to their team when needed.

Brandon Thompson said: “An apprenticeship is a good route into employment as it is a stepping stone to greater things and as well as gaining a qualification I am getting valuable experience which will help me progress in my career.”

Lee Frazier said: “It’s good learning new skills and applying them to tasks I have never carried out before, meaning I am doing something different every day.”

Do you know someone who’d be interested in “earning while they learn”?
