Residents at sheltered schemes across the borough raised a cuppa and chomped on a cake (or two) to support Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.
The events at several schemes, including one at Mulgrave Villas in Gateshead town centre, are likely to raise well over £2,000 for the national charity.
The annual event encourages groups to come together and raise money by making donations in exchange for a cup of coffee, tea, cakes and snacks.
This year’s events look likely to double the amount raised last year for the charity, which provides practical, medical and financial assistance to people facing cancer and their friends and family.
As well as the event at Mulgrave, which raised over £325.50, others were also held at Pleasant Place, Birtley; South Lea, Blaydon; Lansbury Close, Birtley; and Birtley Villas, Birtley.
Mulgrave Villas was one of the first schemes in the borough to benefit from support from the newly launched Sustainable Communities Fund.
