Last year’s charity golf day was such a success that the housing company’s commercial team decided to run the event again. Once again, entry to the golf tournament proved to be very popular, with places selling quickly.
As well as the golf competition there was a charity raffle and auction with prizes kindly donated from local suppliers and businesses.
The charity golf day, held at Whickham Golf Club, raised a staggering £8,125.50 for the Mayor’s Charity Fund.
Councillor Alison Ilderton-Thompson, Mayor of Gateshead for 2016/17, nominated the following charities to support throughout her year in office:
- Forward Assist – a veteran support charity which provides advice and guidance, and life-changing projects and opportunities to former service personnel who are having difficulty adjusting to civilian life.
- Gateshead Carers Association – a charity helping carers living or working in the borough of Gateshead, providing advice and information alongside practical and emotional support, tailored to each individual carer.
- Northumbria Police Benevolent Fund – a charity, independent from the police force, which provides practical support to officers and their families.
The money raised will be shared between the three charities.
Principal Contract Surveyor Paul Richmond from the housing company said: “The day has been a big success – I’m thrilled that we managed to raise over £8,000!
“We are glad we could raise money for such worthwhile causes and hope to continue to support the Mayor’s Charity Fund in the future.”
