NEFirst Credit Union has expanded its network in Gateshead with the addition of a new Local Service Point in Blaydon.
The Local Service Point, which opened in September, is open each Thursday in St Cuthbert’s, Shibdon Road from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
The service will help Blaydon residents avoid high-cost loans by providing an alternative loan at a representative 19.6% APR.
Linda Palmer, Alison Dare and others from Blaydon Churches Together saw a surge in the number of people using foodbanks and knew from experience how Holiday Hunger schemes helped families. The next step for Blaydon residents was to offer affordable credit to help with school uniforms or household bills.
The team of volunteers has welcomed new members to the Credit Union and has big plans for the future, hoping to open a pop-up shop in Blaydon Youth and Community Centre in 2017 and expand their work with children in schools.
