Residents at Rectory Hall are finding it much easier to access their patio and communal garden area thanks to The Gateshead Housing Company and Gateshead Council.
A new patio door was installed to the communal lounge, financed by the housing company’s Sustainable Communities Fund.
The fund is a joint venture between the housing company and Gateshead Council and aims to improve the sustainability of the estates and neighbourhoods we manage and encourage a sense of community in our residents.
Before the door was installed, residents had to walk around the outside of the building to get to the patio area, making it difficult to carry a cup of tea without spilling it and possibly causing injury to themselves.
Sheltered Scheme Officer Marie Tucker said: “The new door makes it easier and safer for residents to access the patio. It also means their tea is still hot when they get there!”
Estate Officer Kate McDermott was also impressed with the improvements: “This is an excellent example of what the Sustainable Communities Fund is used for – small projects that make a big difference.
“Hopefully this will encourage residents to use the patio more and get outside in the fresh air, leading to increased feelings of wellbeing.”
