Local people who may be struggling to return to the workplace can improve their prospects at an event in Gateshead this week.
The Gateshead Local Employment Advisory Forum (LEAF) event is being held from 12 noon to 3pm on Tuesday, 8 July at Gateshead College, The Academy for Sport, Gateshead International Stadium, Nelson Road, Gateshead, NE10 OEF.
The forum, set up by Mears Group PLC and partners including The Gateshead Housing Company, brings together local authorities, social housing landlords, local organisations, businesses and educational facilities to tackle worklessness on a local level.
The free event will give jobseekers the opportunity to find out what skills they need for their chosen career, and practical help to apply for jobs, such as completing forms and improving their CV.
Attendees can see examples of the different job profiles and competencies, and learn about the skills and qualifications needed to do these jobs.
Louise Taylor, Involvement and Diversity Manager at The Gateshead Housing Company, pictured above, said: “We’re thrilled to be a part of this initiative.
“The job search can be particularly hard for people who have never worked or have been out of the job market for many years.
“LEAF allows people to meet employers and local colleges face to face and find out how to develop their skills.
“By creating a dialogue between employers and employees, people can understand what businesses are looking for and get a clearer idea about the type of job they would like to do.”
