Our legal responsibility

Under the Gas Safety Regulations 1998, we have a legal responsibility to make sure your gas appliances are safe.

This includes checks before moving into your home and every year while you live there.

What we do

If you have a gas meter in your home, whether or not it has a gas appliance connected (eg a gas boiler or fire), we will make an appointment on or before the anniversary of the last gas service to carry out an inspection.

If you have any solid fuel appliances we will service these twice a year.

What you must do

As stated in your Tenancy Agreement, you must allow us in your home to carry out this work. Failure to do so will result in legal action being taken against you.

We will write to you to tell you when we will be coming out to carry out these checks. Please make sure you allow us access and keep your appliance(s) turned off while we work. Our safety records will contain details of any faults we have found during a safety check and the appropriate action.

Help keep your home safe

  • Do keep your cooker in good working order and have it serviced regularly; this is your responsibility.
  • Do keep clear any ventilation needed for a gas or solid fuel appliance.
  • Don’t allow anyone who is not a Gas Safe Registered engineer to work on any gas appliance in your home.
  • Don’t fit wood burning stoves or appliances. We don’t allow these for safety and clean-air reasons.
