Residents from Bedale Court are proud winners in a garden contest organised by the Harlow Green Tenants & Residents Association and The Gateshead Housing Company.
The competition, aimed at tenants and residents of Harlow Green, had categories for communal gardens and individual gardens, with the green-fingered lot at Bedale Court taking first place in the Communal Garden section.
All the competition winners were invited to Angel Court for the prize-giving ceremony and buffet, with Councillor Maureen Goldsworthy in attendance to present the awards.
The full list of winners is:
Best Communal Garden
- 1st: Bedale Court
- 2nd: Angel Court
- 3rd: Willerby Court
Most Impressive Garden
- 1st: Mrs I Kell
- 2nd: Mrs A Naples
- 3rd: Mr T Morgan & Mrs M Ancrum
This is the second year the competition has run, following the great success of last year’s contest.
The event was introduced in 2014 to encourage residents to take pride in their estate and gardens and to make the neighbourhood a brighter and more colourful place to live.
Estate Officer Keith Nicholson, who launched the inaugural competition last year, was delighted with the response from tenants.
He said: “I’m really impressed with the work our residents have done to make their gardens so neat and tidy. We will definitely be running the competition again next year, and I’d encourage new people to enter and enjoy a bit of friendly rivalry!”
