Harlow Green gets even greener

A South Gateshead estate is set to look bloomin’ marvellous next Spring thanks to The Gateshead Housing Company and Gateshead Council.

Pupils aged 6 to 11 from the school council of St Anne’s Catholic Primary School took part in a bulb planting session recently around Harlow Green in Gateshead.

The students planted daffodil bulbs around the estate, which is close to The Angel of the North, Gateshead.

Keith Nicholson, Estate Officer, said: “The pupils really enjoyed the bulb planting activity.

“Over 2,000 bulbs were planted by 11 pupils and it will be nice for them to see the results of their work in the springtime when the bulbs bloom.”

Funding for the bulb planting was provided through the recently-launched Sustainable Communities Fund.

The fund is a joint venture between the housing company and Gateshead Council and aims to increase pride in neighbourhoods by improving the local environment.

The planting followed a series of other recent bulb and tree planting days on estates across Gateshead.
