The multi-storey Service Improvement Group (SIG) has been out and about touring some of our blocks to look at the various investments currently in progress or recently completed.
The SIG is an opportunity for residents from our 25 multi-storey blocks across Gateshead to meet up and discuss issues specific to living in multi-storey accommodation.
The first stop of the tour was Fell Court to see a property that has had new windows and other internal works.
These works were a pilot for a planned programme which will include window replacement, roof repairs, insulation and render of the external walls for Fell, Lough and Beacon Court.
The group was able to see first-hand how much the planned work would improve the appearance and heat retention of the blocks.
Next, the tour visited Bedale Court, Acomb Court, St Cuthbert’s Court and Browning Square to look at improvements delivered using the housing company’s Sustainable Communities Fund.
Work here included improvements to garden areas, car park bays, handrails and a memorial seat.
On visits to Eslington Court and Tennyson Court the group agreed that recent improvements had made the blocks safer and more homely. Both now benefit from new ramp access and new handrails, among other improvements.
Jackie Bell from the Multi-storey SIG said: “Today’s tour was really informative, and it helped us to appreciate that all the blocks have very different styles and layouts, which all present their own challenges.”
