With a little help from the housing company, Age UK Gateshead is creating a centre for people with dementia.
The Gateshead charity has renovated Christ Church in Felling which will be used for activities for those with dementia and for the wider community.
The housing company’s Sustainable Communities Fund has helped by donating seating for the day clubs and gardening equipment to help improve the outdoor area of the building.
Age UK Gateshead works in the local community to help older people with dedicated staff and volunteers helping to deliver services and activities.
Julie Latimer from Age UK Gateshead said: “We are so pleased the housing company is supporting Age UK Gateshead with equipment for our much-needed dementia hub in Felling.
“The equipment is helping us to provide care, as well as fun, stimulating activities for older people with dementia six days a week, and also an outdoor space to enjoy.”
Neighbourhood Housing Officer Kevin Fudge said: “It’s great to see the benefit the centre is bringing to people in Gateshead living with dementia. We’ve been delighted to get involved in the project.”
