Hundreds of people attending Newcastle Pride 2015 last weekend got the chance to find out how they can get involved in shaping housing services in Gateshead.

The Gateshead Housing Company’s Involvement Team was at the ever-popular event as part of their summertime ‘Opportunity knocks’ programme.

Newcastle Pride aims to reduce homophobia, promote awareness of equality and unite lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities across the region.

Jon Mallen-Beadle, Managing Director and Corporate Lead on Equality at The Gateshead Housing Company, thought the event was a great way to engage with residents.

He said: “This was the eighth time we have attended and co-sponsored Pride and its parade and each year we gain invaluable views on housing from the LGBT community.

“Hundreds of attendees got to find out more about the various housing groups they can get involved in, including our LGBT Network Meetings over the coming year, as well as our free Moving Forward courses.”

Newcastle Pride is one of many community events the housing company is attending as part of Opportunity knocks as it aims to meet with as many residents as possible this summer.
