From April 2017, HomeRepairs, the service customers currently use to report a repair, will become responsible for the entire process, from reporting to completion of the repair.
Repairs to council homes in Gateshead are currently carried out by Mears, but this contract comes to an end in March 2017.
Among those employees will be our new Director of Property and Assets, Victoria Beattie. Victoria is currently the Service Director of Construction at Gateshead Council.
Victoria is part of a project team that includes representatives from The Gateshead Housing Company, Gateshead Council and Mears. This team is working closely together to ensure a smooth transition on April 1.
Customers will see little difference apart from the staff uniforms and branding on work vans (see image above).
The HomeRepairs service will cover works to all homes managed by The Gateshead Housing Company, including those owned by Keelman Homes Ltd.
However, responsibility for highways and repairs to public buildings such as schools and libraries will remain with Gateshead Council.
