Our Refugee Resettlement Team recently made the shortlist for two top awards. The Chartered Institute of Housing Northern Awards celebrates excellence in Northern housing services.
There are six award categories in total. Each award goes to groups and organisations that demonstrate best practice.
The Refugee Team were up for both the ‘Working in Partnership’ and ‘Team of the Year’ awards.
The ‘Working in Partnership’ award recognises successful collaborative working. Our team made this shortlist for their involvement in the Gateshead Refugee Resettlement Project.
Their work with Middle Eastern and North African refugees also gained them a place on the ‘Team of the Year’ shortlist.
Since 2015, the Refugee Team has resettled 433 refugees from war-torn regions. For our team, the resettlement process goes beyond finding a home. Upon arrival, each family receives their own resettlement plan. As part of this, colleagues help to find employment and education opportunities. They also focus on refugee wellbeing, helping many to sign up to sports teams and drama classes.
