Residents being taught to spot a scam

by The Gateshead Housing Company & filed under Get involved, News.

The Gateshead Housing Company is holding a free course to help customers avoid falling prey to scams, especially in the run up to Christmas.

‘Spot the scam’ will be held on Thursday 7 December between 1pm and 3pm and will highlight that if a deal sounds too good to be true, then it usually is.

Helen Watson, Involvement and Diversity Lead, said: “Every year more than three million people in the UK are conned out of hundreds and even thousands of pounds through illegal schemes.

“Everyone is a target as criminals can contact potential victims by post, phone, e-mail, online, and on your doorstep.

“The weeks before Christmas are always a prime time for scammers.

“So to become scam savvy, call us on 0191 433 5357 or email to book your free place.”

Help to attend the course, including transport and interpreters, is also available.
