Last spring, we told you about our new programme of tenancy visits, which will see us visit every tenant in their home at least once every two years.
Since then we have been working closely with customers who have helped to inform and shape the programme.
We started the visits in September. To begin with we are focusing on visiting tenants who have applied to transfer to another Gateshead Council home.
When a customer applies to transfer their tenancy, their Neighbourhood Housing Officer will contact them to arrange a home visit. At the visit the officer will check on the home and offer advice with any tenancy issues or other support needs.
The officer will also offer to help with anything else the tenant needs – for example money matters or repairs to their home.
During the visit, the officer will also advise on any issues with the property that the tenant will need to put right before they can move home. This helps with preparing to move and minimises delays.
