At the housing company we are always keen to develop ways of working that can help improve the health and wellbeing of residents in Gateshead.
By building links with GPs and medical practices across the borough, we aim to give doctors, nurses and other health professionals easy access to housing support services which can support improvements in health and wellbeing.
As well as providing housing advice and support to residents we can help with financial support and advice, and with finding employment. We also offer a wide range of training courses which can help people to improve their skills and their health.
We have recently developed partnership arrangements with four medical practices based in the East of the borough and eight in the West.
So far, the medical practices have referred 14 people to the housing company, and as a result we have helped people with rehousing, repairs, home conditions and medical adaptations, and provided financial support and advice.
Hazel Forster, Head of Neighbourhood Services at The Gateshead Housing Company said: “Through our work we aim to play an active part in helping to improve the health and wellbeing of residents. The partnerships we have in place are a really good example of developing our wider work alongside local GP services”.
